Sheryl Crow Sings Jackson 5

Posted by Justin on July 29th, 2010 | No Comments

Off her new record, 100 Miles From Memphis, Sheryl Crow threw several covers into the mix, including this Jackson 5 classic. At first I couldn’t believe that she would even attempt to touch this – that anyone would is a bit audacious, but Sheryl Crow? I figured it was not going to go well.

Then I listened to it and my first reaction was, “Jesus, this shit is creepy good.” I mean, there are times during this song in which she sounds like a young MJ and I can’t decide if she included it because it went with her 70s funk/soul theme for the record or if it was her own private tribute (yet not private at all) to the singer she once performed backup vocals for?

You be the judge. Ps: they play this in Starbucks so if it sounds familiar, that’s why. Watch the Jackson 5 perform the song after the jump.

Robyn Wants To Know Whats Killing You

Posted by Justin on June 24th, 2010 | No Comments

Probably my favorite track from Body Talk Pt. 1, Robyn’s Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do is a basic rundown of what goes through my head each and every morning of all the things that are killing me. But I usually include “people” in my version.

Guess what!? Diva is having a contest to see what’s killing you. Like the oil spill, or stamps, or Mucinex, or those grocery carts with bum wheels.

“It’s like everyone wants you to be perfect and you’re dreaming of a world where you can do what you want. I guess it’s about the modern world and the stress I think most people in it feel sometimes. It’s a pretentious message so I tried to make it as simple as I could. I’m talking about how I felt when I came off my tour,” she explains.

Add your complaints to her new interactive 3D video for Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do. Use the Twitter button to post your message or just add the tag #killingme after your message!

There’s even going to be new remixes of the track by  Mylo and Sharooz!

Lance Bass Channels his Inner Lambert… or Billy

Posted by Shan on June 1st, 2010 | No Comments

Today celebrity photographer Mike Ruiz released four new photos of Lance Bass doing his best Adam Lambert impersonation. Or if you are familiar with the ventriloquist horror film Dead Silence… he might just be channeling his inner Billy doll.

One of them recently had a career in the movies.

Just sayin’

Jakes Shears Looking Handsome

Check out these new photos of Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters from Tetu Magazine. I’m excited to see the promotion in full swing for their new album, it’s one of the ones I’m most looking forward to in 2010.

Check out their new video, for Fire with Fire.

Oh Mini Viva, what are you?

Posted by Justin on May 13th, 2010 | No Comments

Mini Viva totally confuses. They are the product of Xenomania, famous for working with Girls Aloud, Kylie Minogue, Cher and a true metric shit-ton of other artists. But for what purpose? Ah…just fun!

I am going to be completely inappropriate and say that the white gal looks like a cross between Kelly Clarkson and Selena whilst the other girl is a cross between Sophie Ellis Bextor and Solange. Anywho, these two have a live videocast for a half-hour every Friday and I have never seen it, nor do I care to. Honestly, they aren’t that special, their videos have been at least colorful (I’m more partial to the effects in the video for I Wish) but these songs are such pop confectionary goodness that I can’t help but just lick the top of their musical cupcakes. Totes.just.went.there.

Cough:::you suck:::Cough

I truly don’t like Christina’s pretentiousness that she’s been carrying since after the Stripped album. The fact of the matter is she tries too hard to be this ‘artist’ and honestly, she’s a voice -- she can sing anything. Does she really need to try to be this serious? So obnoxious. Not yourself tonight? Good -- be someone else, like someone who smiles or has FUN making music. Blerg.
