Goldfrapp Preps Release of ‘Believer’

Posted by Justin on July 28th, 2010 | No Comments

Goldfrapp – Believer (Davide Rossi Reinterpretation) from Myler Moss on Vimeo.

Above is the Davide Rossi Reinterpretation of Goldfrapp’s third single from the Head First album, Believer. I enjoy the song, but I feel it sounds a little too much in the same vein as Alive and I wish they would have opted for something that had a more unique tone or sound to it that the general public haven’t heard yet. And as I wrote that, I laughed because I think, “Do Goldfrapp get played on the radio anywhere?”

Remixes will be coming soon (and a video too I hope) by Little Cloud, Vince Clarke, Subway and Joris Voorn.

I feel it’s also worth mentioning that Alison recently lost her mother but has truly been a champ and continued to tour despite her loss.

I enjoyed her last video for The Flood, and this video is pretty awesome, but the song…meh.

Let’s Review ‘Aphrodite,’ Shall We?

Posted by Justin on July 6th, 2010 | 1 Comment

Probably my most anticipated album of the year has arrived and Aphrodite has been the total breathe of fresh air that I was hoping for. This time Kylie shot for a more cohesive album and got it right. Even leading with All The Lovers, it now makes sense in the context of the album, where it kicks everything else off. A sweeping, sentimental club song – who would’ve thought those still existed, especially with a complete breakdown in the middle 8 section that then leads to a sonic explosion. A fitting opener. Read more for the track-by-track review, even of the bonus tracks…

Want more Kelis? Jump on the spaceship

Posted by Justin on June 25th, 2010 | No Comments

Check out the behind the scenes clip for the new track Spaceship by Benny Benassi featuring Kelis, Apl.de.ap and Jean Baptiste. The track is awesome and is available on Itunes now. It’s a perfect compliment to Flesh Tone, so tack it on the end for a mixtape.

The ‘Spaceship (Remixes)’ package includes a wide range of remixes from an incredible selection of artists: Fedde le Grand; EDX; Kris Menace; The Toxic Avenger; Datsu; Alex Gaudino & Jason Rooney; Nadastrom and Pance Party. The full video, which from the looks of the clip above is going to be awesome, premieres June 28.

Introducing Christophe Willem

Posted by Shan on June 22nd, 2010 | No Comments

Being a huge Kylie fan last year I happened across a version of Sensitized featuring someone named Christophe Willem. I had no clue who he was but Sensitized was one of my favorite tracks from X, so I immediately took a listen and was blown away by his voice (in French) meshing so well against the song. That was the last I heard of Christophe, and I didn’t bother looking any more into him, until now.

Sensitized was originally lifted from his debut album Caféine which was a smash in France, Switzerland and Belgium. Now Christophe has geared the album for an International release with a new title Heartbox; fitting it with a majority of English tracks and a handful that are still in French. At first I was put off by some of the album being in French, but after listening to it from beginning to end the entire thing is a pop dance affair and even if you don’t know the words you can’t help but bounce to the beat of any track off the album.

Miley Cyrus, Can’t Be Tamed (Album)

Posted by Shan on June 22nd, 2010 | No Comments

As fellow blogger MuuMuse put it,

…here’s your album review: Love the bangers. Avoid the ballads.
- Source

That is a dead on 2 second review of this album, but for the sake of pop music and posterity I thought a tiny bit more insight could be offered.

There’s no doubt that this album is a departure for Miley, for those of us who consume pop music on a daily basis we saw this moment in Miley’s career coming for several years. It’s inevitable that every teen princess must make her leap from pop tart to to a more serious music career. Miley at the ripe age of 17 has been moving through this process for the last year or so, most noticeably beginning with the infamous pole dance at the Teen Choice Awards.

Pop rock will set the tone for most of this album. Perhaps it’s Miley’s better than thou attitude of late or just some sort of misstep in the production, but where Lindsay Lohan did pop rock right with her debut album First, Cyrus seems to do it all wrong. There are exceptions on this album such as the title track Can’t Be Tamed and Robot which both direct you know to be sure that Miley is no longer the manufactured Disney queen we once knew her as.

Scissor Sisters Reignite Spark With ‘Night Work’

Posted by Justin on June 21st, 2010 | No Comments

Scissor Sisters Night Work

I’ve always been a fan of the Scissor Sisters. They are like kitsch punk rock/pop music. I remember seeing them in a small, tiny space in Indianapolis when they were on tour in support of their first album and was blown away by their energy, their vibe and their ability to turn it out on stage. This was when they had their biggest hit in the states with Take Your Mama Out, one of the most radio-friendly tracks on that first album. But for the most part, it seemed like no one knew what to make of them or how to categorize them or if and where they fit onto radio.
