90’s Flashback: Singer of “How Bizarre” dies

Posted by Shan on January 31st, 2010 | No Comments

Remember that song “How Bizarre”? Well even if you don’t, once you hear the first two seconds of the song you’ll be quickly reminded, and you won’t be able to get the song out of your head.

If anyone had asked me to name the band who sings it before today my guess would have been “Sugar Ray”, but actually it’s the one hit wonder Pauly Fuemana of Otara Millionaires Club or “OMC” died today at the age of 40 from unknown medical issues.

Sit back, relax, flashback.

Cheryl Cole, Parachute

Posted by Justin on January 31st, 2010 | 2 Comments

This is the turning point for me. This is the point where I openly now say that I am a fan of Cheryl Cole. This is the moment where I go, “Whoever is putting this whole package together – I applaud you,” including Cheryl herself.

This song was not one of the standouts for me when I listened to the album, but now has honestly become one of my favorites and am pretty stoked it was picked as a single. The military drumbeat, the staccato melody, and lyrics like, “Don’t believe the things you tell yourself so late at night, you are your own worst enemy – you’ll never win the fight, just hold on to me – I’ll hold on to you, it’s you and me up against the world, it’s you and me…” – gem. I can’t wait for the remixes and I hope this video does really well, because – really – Cheryl Cole is becoming a true guilty pleasure.

So far the videos from her album 3 words have been really dramatic and vibrant, but not necessarily overly-saturated in a Hype Williams hip-hip way. Ever so Euro, ever so sophisticated, this video for her 3rd single, Parachute, takes the gee-dee cake. Stunning imagery, hot-ass dancing with US DWTS Derek Hough, a dash of Da Vinci Code, a sliver of hot ass, capes…oh, there’s too much to take all in. And here I was – worried. Check out our post reviewing the remixes.

Kesha Who?

Posted by Shan on January 31st, 2010 | No Comments

Girl seemed to blow up out of nowhere, but she’s been around actually. Most likely before “Tik Tok” blew up your music world you had already heard her or even saw her before. Just where you might ask. Well let’s break down the shortlist of knowns.

Audio: Flo Rida – You Spin Me Round – Probably her most noteable appearance, except that she asked to remain anonymous on this track so until she started to become famous, no one really knew it was her.

Visual: Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl – That’s right, take a look at the video, you’ll see Kesha in the background of many of the scenes. At the time Kesha was broke and Katy Perry was still an unknown so she appeared in the video for next to nothing.

Audio: Britney Spears – Leather & Lace – Although not distinct, it is fact that she sung back up for this song.

Audio: Paris Hilton – Nothing In This World – Kesha again sings background vocals.

Visual: The Simple Life – Season 2 – While living in Tennesse with her mother, Paris and Nicole visited the family on one episode and Kesha says that Nicole Richie nearly ruined her music career before it even got off the ground when Dr. Luke called and Nicole hung up on him.

Where to hear her next? Just this week she was shooting the video for her next single “Blah Blah Blah (feat 3OH!3)”, we expect this one to be blowing up your speakers this spring, it’s just as infectious as “Tik Tok” and a wise choice for her second single.

Kesha is glitter.

Macy Gray is One Classy Lady

Posted by Shan on January 30th, 2010 | 1 Comment

I don’t really get into Dancing With the Stars, the whole thing seems almost trite. Really, there’s a lot of things I don’t get into and my friends and such remind me often that I’m set in my ways, but that isn’t a post for this site.

However, when I heard that Macy Gray was going to be on the show I just had to see it. She has to be one of the most awkward people ever, and so I knew it was going to be a mess. Not to my surprise she only lasted one week, so I didn’t have to subject myself to the show for too terribly long.

This however, was the best moment in Macy Gray history when she dropped the cherry F-bomb in her post dance interview while getting her scores, you can rewind back and see the whole dance and awkward judge comments if you so desire.

Stop making albums, because this is how I want to remember your career.
