Robyn to release 3 albums in 2010?

Posted by Justin on February 27th, 2010 | No Comments

What the WHAT?!? According to a report by Pitchfork, who is crediting an interview that Robyn has done for Swedish magazine Bon, Robyn is finally releasing new material this year, 5 years after her last release. And not just one album, but three! Read the article or catch the highlights:

  • More dance-oriented music
  • Rap Duel with Snoop Dogg
  • “None of Dem,” Royskopp produced track that sounds similar to Timbaland (groans…)
  • “Fembot,” about 30 yr old women wanting to get preggers
  • Tracks called “Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do” and “Dance Hall Queen” – which leaked earlier this year on the web, produced by Diplo
  • First album due in spring, then one in summer and one in winter
  • Bon article discusses everything from African tribal dance lessons to her dislike of Lady Gaga’s music

Jonsi, Go Do

Posted by Justin on February 27th, 2010 | No Comments

It’s what I do – pick random, obscure music. If Bjork were a boy – she’d be Jonsi. Jón “Jónsi” Þór Birgisson is the lead singer of Sigur Ros who is venturing into the world of solo artistry. Interesting facts? Blind in his right eye. He’s openly gay and his boyfriend does much of the artwork for Sigur Ros and they even made an album together. He’s a vegetarian.

Now, the music/the art. His first single from his solo album, Go, is called Go Do and the video is pretty intense. I will say this of the Icelandic people – they are truly in tune with the environment and nature more so than I sense other people are. Probably because they are thrown into an intense bit of climate and live on volcanic islands in the northern Atlantic. Hodge-podge ensues. This music, or style of music, will not be for everyone’s taste as it is unconventional and veers from most pop structures, etc. Regardless, I still enjoy something about it. The lightness, that’s what I enjoy about it. Just seems like a song that makes you want to run in tall grass at dusk in the summer. Check out the video for the planning of his live show – it looks amazing.

Surprise! No Britney album in June

Posted by Justin on February 26th, 2010 | 1 Comment

You could knock me over with a feather right now. The fact that Britney isn’t coming out with a new album in June is just SHOCKING! I mean, it’s been forever since we saw her last…like November or so? That 3-some song about numerology or the number of male toilet parts. And the fact that hoe is out of the house looking like this means we ain’t getting an album for a while. As our friend MuuMuse has pointed out time and again, when Britney is brunette it means two things: she’s in the studio and she’s crazy again. Yes, that’s the most unflattering picture ever. More than those vagina shots. Thank you X17online!

Get some Dicte

Posted by Justin on February 26th, 2010 | No Comments

Today’s obscure-ish singer is from Denmark. Say hello to Dicte! For a 44 year old, she’s pretty rocking and makes some fun music. Apparently she’s been in bands and been doing solo work for a while. Thankfully with the internet, we can find things like this. I can’t seem to find much about her because, well, I don’t speak Dutch. If you do, check out her Myspace page.

It’s No Surprise That We Are Starry Eyed

Posted by Shan on February 25th, 2010 | No Comments

Check out Ellie Goulding singing her new single “Starry Eyed” on the BBC Radio 1 Lounge. Her immaculate live singing voice is a force to be reckoned with, if this doesn’t give you chills than you have no soul. It’s really no wonder why the BBC picked her as their person to look for in 2010.

Look for our double review of her new album “Lights” on Monday.

Lily Allen Confirms Retirement from Music

Posted by Shan on February 25th, 2010 | No Comments

She’s been talking about it for months, but it appears to be finally official. Lily Allen will be performing her last gig on March 7th at London’s O2 arena and hanging up her music hat and putting on a fashion designer corset.

I think Lily Allen is a pretty girl when she’s done up, but nothing about her has ever screamed “FASHION!” to me. I’m interested to see if her new line “Lucy in Disguise” goes anywhere. Here are a few moments in Lily Allen’s fashion history that you might keep in mind when deciding on whether she can bring it to the industry. You have to ask, for a woman who often times can’t put herself together in public, is this really someone you want dressing you?
