Totally Fresh: Chew Lips

Posted by Justin on February 25th, 2010 | No Comments

If you haven’t realized by now, I’m always on the search for new music. Something fun, something unique, something interesting. I came across this pop-dance-rock band called Chew Lips that I’m a little bit smitten with. Hailing from the UK, Chew Lips is a dance/pop trio led by singer Tigs – yes, Tigs. Well, I’m in love with Tigs’ voice. It reminds me at times of kd lang, which is a total compliment. The production is minimal, clean and direct. It’s not overdone and that’s what makes it brilliant.

Their debut album Unicorn was just released in the UK in January and received a 4/5 rating from Q magazine, so pretty impressive. They formed in 2008 and released some songs throughout 2009, namely their claim to fame record Solo and Salt Air, neither of which are featured on their album oddly enough. The latest single is Play Together. Check out some videos after the jump.

Tracks I’d recommend: Eight, Karen, Seven (which musically reminds me of Janet’s So Much Betta during the verses = great), Piano Song. Hell, the whole album is good.

Rox, My Baby Left Me

Posted by Justin on February 25th, 2010 | No Comments

Rox is a new UK soul singer whose debut single My Baby Left Me comes out on March 15. I’m truly digging the track and can’t wait to hear more from her. She’s a more pop-oriented Jill Scott. The song was produced by Al Shux, responsible for Empire State of Mind. Check out more on Rox’s Myspace page.

‘Cause Too Much is Never Enough

Posted by Shan on February 25th, 2010 | No Comments

Reports are coming in that Melanie B a.k.a. Scary Spice is in talks to co-host Dancing With the Stars. It’s amazing that these ladies still get work in America all these years later. Personally I’m all for it, however I wonder if her accent might be a little much for TV viewers. Although an accent seems to be required to host a TV show here, Mel’s accent is very, very strong, especially for the ‘common’ viewer.

Of course, if she’s co-hosting a television show I’m sure she’s not going to have much time to work on that third album, that we’re still waiting on. *cough cough*

More than meets the Rihanna

Posted by Justin on February 24th, 2010 | No Comments

I have to say I love Rihanna’s Rated R. From start to finish, it’s pretty damn great. It was totally out of left field in terms of what everyone was expecting her to do which I think has made the reception a bit sluggish, but anyone I know who has listened to it in entirety thinks it’s a good body of work. Maybe it’s a fluke of right people together at the right time. While I can see some of her personal shizz coming through the music, I also think too many people are assuming it’s a literal transcription of events. Really, do you think Rihanna is condoning suicide? I doubt it. Leave that to the pro’s – Insane Clown Posse.

She recently just performed some songs at AOL’s Studio Sessions, and this by far stood out as one of the best performances. Check out the video for Hard after the jump – it’s my favorite so far from the album.

Blah, Blah, Blah Video!

Posted by Shan on February 24th, 2010 | No Comments

Yesterday, some shitty quality half-assed version of Kesha’s video for “Blah Blah Blah” leaked, but it wasn’t worth your three minutes, so we waited. It was a long excruciating 24 hours, but here it is, the video, in high quality.

The video isn’t particularly exciting, but just about what I expected. It’s cute and Kesha looks good and 3OH!3 even made an appearance.

Madonna ignores her past yet again

Posted by Justin on February 23rd, 2010 | No Comments

Despite performing this ‘mash-up’ of sorts on her Sticky & Sweet tour, Madonna just couldn’t be bothered to turn up for the actual release of Meck ft. Dino’s Feels Like A Prayer. I LOVE this remix and wished that the thoughtless icon would have at least considered being part of it. But no, she’s too busy clutched in a young, latin cougar-loving model’s embrace or trucking her kids all across the world to tear down villages in order to build schools with her billions of dollars (just kidding, just kidding -- I really don’t think even Madonna has billions of dollars). Anyways, enjoy Meck ft. Dino, Feels Like A Prayer and see the real deal when Madonna’s Sticky and Sweet Tour is released on DVD/CD on March 30th.

Lohan (un)shocking revelations

Posted by Justin on February 23rd, 2010 | No Comments

Are you sitting down? Seriously – sit down. You are going to be blown away by what I have to share with you. Lindsay Lohan, sweet lovable ginger-ish angel from such classics as The Parent Trap, Mean Girls and I Know Who Killed Me, was addicted to booze and drugs.

OMFG – I KNOW! I feel as if my world is crumbling down around me. Is nothing sacred anymore? 4 Realz, u guyz, this is blowing my mind.

Okay – just kidding. I’m honestly amazed Lindsay is actually still alive as I type this. It’s evident to me after her admission as a hoarder that princess has spent through the Mean Girls millions and is hard up for cash. I mean, this ess ain’t a secret, so why you talking about it?

I tried to mask my problems with alcohol, cocaine and mind-altering substances. Now I’m in a place where I don’t need to use anything and I can feel emotions because I choose to.

She goes on to talk about her car wrecks, her daredevil escapades with Ambien and faucets and her pesky father’s drug habits and media blabbing. Mind-altering substances are referenced so much in this article, that I felt like I was high myself by the time I finished it. Read this Lindsay Lohan article at your own risk.

Let’s take a glimpse at two of my favorite Lindsay moments after the jump. Read the rest »
