Well it’s here, finally! It seems like we wait for leaks or releases of songs just to be let down. Am I let down with Goldfrapp’s new single “Rocket”. I wouldn’t say that I’m ‘rocketing’ with excitement but it’s good. Swinging away from the ethereal sounds of “Seventh Tree” and more to the upbeat sounds of Supernature’s “Ooh La La” and “Number One” with an 80′s tinge.

And it’s 80′s. Very, very 80′s. I don’t know how the song could be anymore 80′s. It’s got lots of synthesizers and rocket sounds and a simple chorus that has been in my head first thing in the morning for the last week or so. It doesn’t hurt that we’ve heard this song before. Where you might ask? Well if “Rocket” appears to directly sample Van Halen’s “Jump”.

As always Goldfrapp has kept us on our toes with a change in musical and visual direction. If “Rocket” is any indication the new album will be more upbeat than “Seventh Tree” which was respectable in it’s own right. Visually it appears from both the album and single cover that we will be seeing lots of 80′s influenced visuals with pinks and purples.

To round out the song Alison counts down to lift off, what else would you expect?

Look for their 6th album “Head First” out March 23rd, in the US and March 22nd elsewhere.

  1. I’m hopeful that this album is going to be a short, crazy burst of joy that’s probably 35 minutes in length.
