Finally, after some EPs, Janelle Monae is going to release her first full-length album, The ArchAndroid, on May 18.. Imagine a cross between Lauryn Hill and Judy Garland. That’s my impression of Janelle. You can stream her new single, Tightrope (ft. Big Boi) at her website. Is anyone else reminded of an early Jackson 5 sound in her voice on this? Love it. (Ps: Rihanna ripped off her hair for Rude Boy. Just sayin’.)
Her music is pretty upbeat and fun, but even when she’s doing a ballad or slow song, the power of her voice shines. Check out some of her videos after the jump -- I would love to see her perform live, she just seems so exuberant.
