This weekend Ellie dropped her fourth video from her hit album Lights. The ballad The Writer was choosen which left me a bit disappointed, there were far better choices for a fourth single. Especially after Guns and Horses didn’t fair so well on the charts. An obvious fan favorite was Salt Skin which I know some remixes were/are being done for. Perhaps we will see it as a final single, although this is technically the fourth single from Lights if it doesn’t perform well I think this project will be considered complete.
The video for The Writer is a typical ballad-y video with no effects and simple shots of Ellie in a field and a lighthouse. Yawn.

This was my favourite track off the album. But I do agree, this video leaves a LOT to be desired. I feel like grabbing a high definition camera and a couple friends and redo the video. Even with our budget of $time, I’m certain I can produce something equally as good if not better.
Oh and can we agree that close up shots of her face in slow motion are NOT to her benefit?

what a p.o.s. they honestly just don’t know what to do with her or where to put her. is she folk? is she pop? is she alternative? She’s not Kylie, she’s not Florence. She’s just not very compelling thus far. I would have much preferred ‘Salt Skin’ or ‘This Love (Will Be Your Downfall)’ that I know you hate. But it would have better than this because it at least has drums and an upbeat chorus.
