Listen to All For You from Ace of Base

Posted by Shan on July 22nd, 2010 | No Comments

We originally posted about Ace of Base making a comeback last month when we were greeted with the song Mr. Replay, that song however was only released as a teaser and the actual first single from the newly reformed (with new members) group is here and it’s called All For You. A snippet has been online for several weeks but we decided to wait for a proper version to appear.

The song is very Ace of Base but it’s also very standard euro pop. Whether it stands out from anything else that’s already out there is questionable. This is a song that could have easily been released by duo Infernal and sound as good if not better. The song is obviously strong on vocals even if they aren’t the original singers but what the new Ace of Base brings to the table is still unknown. They are no longer considered cutting edge like they were in the 90′s.

Ace of Base Preview New Track Mr. Replay

Posted by Shan on July 3rd, 2010 | 1 Comment

As we reported weeks ago, Ace of Base were set to release new music with a brand new line up of female singers After the departure of Linn and Jenny.

Here is the first song to emerge, it’s unsure if this is a single, but it’s apparent that they still have their signature sound intact on this reggae influenced track, Mr. Replay.

Ace of Base Stage Return, sort of

Posted by Shan on June 21st, 2010 | No Comments

Ace of Base who have been mostly out of the music scene since earlier this decade (sans a recent Greatest Hits) are poised to release a new single entitled Let It Play at the World Cup sometime in July with an album to follow up.

For those not in the know, Jenny Berggren was the final remaining vocal member after the slow departure of Linn Berggren over the years. It was believed that Jenny would continue carrying the band but after working on a new album for some time as a three piece, the record label informed the 20 million+ album selling band that they needed to be a four piece. Jenny insisted that Ace of Base was not Ace of Base with members who were not originally in the band. She walked leading to what was believed to be the end of Ace of Base. Jenny has since launched her solo career which was originally believed to just be a side project.

Fast forward to the present and it appears that Ulf and Jonas decided to move on and take the name Ace of Base with them as reports are saying that the new single and album will bear the original name of Ace of Base. Linn and Jenny will  be replaced with two much younger female pop tarts named Julia and Clare. For Ace of Base fans known as “Acers” (the original “Little Monsters”), the non-name change has them none to pleased and agree with Jenny that only original members should be considered to hold the original name.

You can listen to some very low quality clips of some of the new material here, it does sound promising but I have to admit it’s just not Ace of Base without the original members.

Video Flashback: Ace of Base – Beautiful Morning

Posted by Shan on March 5th, 2010 | No Comments

I caught some slack in school for loving Ace of Base, since they were “so not in” and in fact at that time were already a little past their prime, but hey I didn’t care! They really did release some of the defining pop music of the 90′s.

They are actually still around still making music together and solo. A couple of years ago released some re-vamped songs which were pretty decent which included Lucky Love, All That She Wants and Don’t Turn Around. They are now working as a three piece as Linn left the group. Often times you’d see her standing in the back in photoshoots or only making short appearances in videos, like the one for Beautiful Morning below.

This video is one of the last ones they did for their last album Da Capo which came out in 2002. I love this video, it’s simple and Ulf never seems to age.
