Miley Spreads Avian Flu

Posted by Justin on May 4th, 2010 | No Comments

Miley Cyrus has just released the new video for her “Look, I’m more than a Disney act…more than a two-hit wonder, I can be dark, dramatic and be lambasted that I’m stealing from Gaga like everyone else” single. Actually, that would have been compelling. But a fucking bird? She’s more of a dodo than a giant raven. And because of her being so country (and by country I mean a redneck hillbilly with a face that only a mare could love), this video is like when Shania tried to be dark. Let’s all just absorb that for a moment. Got it?

Well, now watch this silliness. And I agree with MuuMuse, there’s some Britney copying going on as well. But I’m reminded of Stronger. And Rihanna’s Please Don’t Stop the Music. And this song could be Adam Lambert’s in a glam minute.

The only thing that’s extinct is Miley’s virginity…ya heard!? My last thought: this is proof that it matters not who the singer is or their ability, songs are so well-fucking-produced that Madeline Albright could be a pop star. And it also proves that Christina’s video could have at least been a little more interesting. I mean if Miley makes a video that I can sit through…Xtina you oughtsta be ashamed of yo skank ass self.

Fresh Tidbits

In lieu of trying to make a post for each of these items, here’s a quick rundown of some interesting news:

  • Elle magazine is featuring it’s first “high concept art” cover with Kylie Minogue for June 2010 (read as: “it’s just blurry, and we’re paying for it to be blurry”)
  • Bionic, the much anticipated album from Lady Gaga Christina Aguilera features four songs by Sia, and are described by the singer as the heart of the album. Full tracklisting here, and it appears that Goldfrapp song is appearing. Really? Then you should have released on of those versus this craptastic song. (I mean, I expect this from Dannii…)
  • Speaking of the other pregnant Minogue, according to her Twitter, she’s been recording music but has no record deal. Color me surprised, after this.
  • Amy Winehouse buzz is picking back up saying she is back in the studio with Mark Ronson. I dunno, she feels irrelevant anymore.
  • Tons of songs from Kelis’ upcoming album Fleshtone have been leaked on to the interwebz, the latest being Home
  • Sophie Ellis Bextor describes each track on her upcoming album Straight to The Heart
  • Tracey Thorn unveiled another song from her new album on Stereogum called Why Does the Wind. The album Love and Its Opposite is released on 5/18.
  • Johnny Weir is making music? Oh hell.
  • Pixie Lott reported in on Twitter this week that she was in LA filming a video for the single Turn It Up. Um, I thought you were working on a new album?
  • STFU about a Britney Glee episode already!
  • Janelle Monae unveiled a trailer for her new album The ArchAndroid
  • And a bit of Gaga for you…from MAC Viva Glam.

The Bird and the Bee do Hall & Oates

Posted by Justin on March 25th, 2010 | No Comments

Let me say that I’m a fan of The Bird and the Bee. They are retro, yet not. Not futuristic, but kitsch. It’s actually really hard to pinpoint their style, and that makes me delightful to me. From their numerous EPs and two albums, a eponymous effort and their last album Ray Guns Are Not The Future, Inara George and Greg Kurstin are totally a pair that turn out some great music.

Recently, they decided to do an album of Hall & Oates covers, with one original song thrown in. Chances are you’ve heard Greg Kurstin’s production recently on Lily Allen’s last album and he’s worked with Kylie, Little Boots, Shirley Manson, Britney, Ladyhawke, Sia, Beck, All Saints, Jason Mraz, Darren Hayes – even the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Impressive to say the least.

Britney B-sides

Posted by Justin on March 14th, 2010 | 2 Comments

Well, in lieu of Britney calling BS on a new album in June, I went through my Britney B-sides and realized that she’s had some halfway decent tracks that never officially appeared on her albums. One of my favorites was a track called Over To You Now, co-penned by Guy Sigsworth, Imogen Heap and Robyn. Talk about a powerhouse, right? You can hear Immi’s background vocals on the track. It was featured on the British version of the Chaotic EP, named after the tv series of the same name featuring Britney and Kevin Federline during their courtship. Courtship, not court battles. Those would be documented later on.

But some of other Britney classic b-sides: Phonography, Trouble, Don’t Hang Up, Chaotic, I’ve Just Begun Having My Fun. What are some of your favorite b-sides or unreleased tracks?

Surprise! No Britney album in June

Posted by Justin on February 26th, 2010 | 1 Comment

You could knock me over with a feather right now. The fact that Britney isn’t coming out with a new album in June is just SHOCKING! I mean, it’s been forever since we saw her last…like November or so? That 3-some song about numerology or the number of male toilet parts. And the fact that hoe is out of the house looking like this means we ain’t getting an album for a while. As our friend MuuMuse has pointed out time and again, when Britney is brunette it means two things: she’s in the studio and she’s crazy again. Yes, that’s the most unflattering picture ever. More than those vagina shots. Thank you X17online!

New (old) Britney photos

Check out these gorgeous pics! Where has this gal gone? Her most recent pic showed her taking a drag off a ciggy outside a recording studio. And as MuuMuse put it so eloquently, when Britney is brunett, it means she’s crazy again.
