Oh boys…
Posted by Justin on March 10th, 2010 | No Comments
In what may be the most untimely and ironic song ever, Cheryl Cole’s last single featured a b-side entitled Boys, written by Adele – yes, that Adele (I would kill someone to hear her demo of this song!). I just find it funny that with the shit-storm that is Cheryl’s personal life currently, this song is basically about how boys are shit but girls can’t help liking (or loving) them. Even funnier that the rumors circle that Cheryl may give her dirtbag hubby another chance. It’s so Elin Nordegren of her, right? Wrong. Chezza, as she’s referred to in the UK press, needs to beat her husband down, Tiger Woods style.
And another frivolous note about this song is that I feel it LITERALLY sounds like Shania Twain or could have been plucked from her back catalogue. Or that Shania should sing this and Cheryl sing the ever-appropriate Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?

Cheryl Cole – Boys
Cheryl’s new single Parachute is out next Monday, with a new b-side titled Just Let Me Go and remixes of the single by Ill Blu, Buzz Junkies and more. She’ll also be on Radio 1’s Live Lounge this Friday singing Parachute and presumably a cover version, a tradition of most acts who visit the program.
Brit Awards 2010

The Brit Awards are basically the UK version of the Grammys. But tend to be better and more representation of popular acts. And I’m pretty sure the population gets to vote on some categories as well, right? Well, on some awards.

Cheryl Cole, Parachute remixes
Posted by Justin on February 7th, 2010 | No Comments
The remixes for Parachute have come out and they are…unique.
The Buzz Junkies remixes are dancefloor killers, just heightening the drama of the original and standout as the best of the bunch (I loved their remix of Natalie Imbruglia’s Want). The Ill Blue remixes are a bit more merengue flavored with some blips and boops added in. However, the Self-Taught Beats Remix and the Euphonix Remix totally rework the song and I love when a remix does that. While Self-Taught Beats makes it more of a hip-hop affair, it doesn’t improve upon the original track with the chorus falling a bit flat – but the bridge is great with the beat behind it. The Euphonix remix changes the structure of the verses and chorus completely and adds some eery piano and the bridge brings in some synthy runs. It’s hard to get used to this one.
Since the Buzz Junkies is serving the web as the most popular version, I’ll opt for the Self-Taught Beats mix to let you taste. Check out the gorgeous video on our other post and check out her ‘live’ performance of the song after the cut.

Cheryl Cole, Parachute
Posted by Justin on January 31st, 2010 | 2 Comments
This is the turning point for me. This is the point where I openly now say that I am a fan of Cheryl Cole. This is the moment where I go, “Whoever is putting this whole package together – I applaud you,” including Cheryl herself.
This song was not one of the standouts for me when I listened to the album, but now has honestly become one of my favorites and am pretty stoked it was picked as a single. The military drumbeat, the staccato melody, and lyrics like, “Don’t believe the things you tell yourself so late at night, you are your own worst enemy – you’ll never win the fight, just hold on to me – I’ll hold on to you, it’s you and me up against the world, it’s you and me…” – gem. I can’t wait for the remixes and I hope this video does really well, because – really – Cheryl Cole is becoming a true guilty pleasure.
So far the videos from her album 3 words have been really dramatic and vibrant, but not necessarily overly-saturated in a Hype Williams hip-hip way. Ever so Euro, ever so sophisticated, this video for her 3rd single, Parachute, takes the gee-dee cake. Stunning imagery, hot-ass dancing with US DWTS Derek Hough, a dash of Da Vinci Code, a sliver of hot ass, capes…oh, there’s too much to take all in. And here I was – worried. Check out our post reviewing the remixes.
A lesson in spin

Ahem, I work in PR/Advertising and this is a lesson in positive spin, making something out of nothing:
We’re pleased to announce some really HUGE news for all Cheryl Cole fans…
This summer Ms Cole will be embarking on her FIRST EVER SOLO TOUR when she joins the Black Eyed Peas as a special guest on the UK leg of their eagerly awaited THE E.N.D World Tour!
Fans can look forward to seeing Cheryl bringing hits from her platinum selling debut album 3 Words, which features production from Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am, to the stage!
Due to the phenomenal demand, extra shows have now been added to the tour. The new shows are in Manchester, London and Birmingham, extending the UK tour to 8 dates!
WOWZA! 8 whole wopping dates? I mean, is she going for a new world record? I also love the touting of it as, ‘She’s going on her SOLO tour…(in a tiny whisper with hand held to mouth as if a secret) opening for the Black Eyed Peas.’ Insert trombone wah-wahh here. And because of the high demand of both BEP and Cheryl, the tour was THANKFULLY extended to this 8-day trek. Shew-ee.
Oh Cheryl…it seems like you are barely going to escape the fate of Lisa Scott Lee.
Who the eff is Cheryl Cole?

I mean, I know who it is. But most people don’t if they don’t live in the UK. Or listened to Girls Aloud. Or know about the feud with Lily Allen.
I’ve subjected Shan to a cursory introduction that went something like this, but you have the luxury of all these great links: Well, Cheryl Cole is this broad from the UK gal band (are they now defunct or just ‘on a break?) Girls Aloud. She’s a judge on the UK hit show X-Factor, yep, the one that Simon is leaving American Idol for to recreate stateside (Poor Dannii Minogue…and that will be the only time I ever feel sorry for her). She was the least likely person to record a solo album, much less have a hit on her hands.
So what the ess happened? She hit a jackpot of mediocre pop production from Will.I.Am. Oh.No.U.Didn’t. I hate the Black Eyed Peas more than I hate earthquakes in Haiti, but Cole’s album 3 Words is pretty good. Of course that means that they’re gonna try to bring her to the US, with the help (insert eye-roll, sigh and grunt) of Ryan Tedder. Cause he really BROUGHT IT with that last Leona Lewis album, didn’t he? #epicfailsmakeMEhappy.
