Sophie gets all musically inclined

Posted by Justin on May 7th, 2010 | 4 Comments

Here’s what I love about the UK/Brits: they go on telly (you like?) to discuss their song and album. I don’t think we do that much in this country. I feel it’s all a bit pretentious and tries to be too intellectual for songs that are produced by Freemasons. Blerg.

Watch an interview for a bunch of British speak and an interview that gives a little too much musical credit that you probably can’t understand and catch some great acoustic versions of Bittersweet and Heartbreak Make Me a Dancer. Actually makes them poignant to a degree.

Sophie Ellis Bextor, Bittersweet

Despite my belief that Sophie Ellis Bextor doesn’t DESERVE the behemoth track that everyone is crapping their pants over (yet, we’ve still not heard the original track…hmmm, remember the difference between Kylie’s The One on the album and then the Freemasons’ tweaked mix? Yah…good!), I’ve decided to just go ahead and swallow my own bitterness and present the Freemasons Remix Edit  of Bittersweet. Go here to get the Jodie Marsh remix!

Sophie busy with trip to Ikea, trimming trees

WTF. Sophie Ellis-Bextor may be an artist who I enjoy, but I can never figure out why exactly. It’s not like she has an amazing voice, that she’s a terribly captivating performer or that she is a trainwreck of a popstar who you love to watch crash and burn.

She’s so…blase. In a recent interview on her website, Sophie sat down and answered questions about her garden, her trip to Ikea, being with her label for 10 years and, oh yeah how did I almost forget, the fact that she’s finally completed the recording process of her 4th album.

When can we expect it? SEB’s can’t be bothered with that ess:

So, what’s the timeline from here?
I’m hoping to get my first lot of video treatments in today and I will be filming a video at the beginning of February. And then the scheduled release for the single is the beginning of April. We’re just choosing photographers for the artwork and doing a brief for the direction and that sort of thing. Fun stuff.

Will the album come shortly after the single?
No, I think we’re going to do two singles and then the album, actually. In fact, it’ll be almost three, because I’ve got Heartbreak on there as well.

Oh, good…we’re going to put a year-old track on the album as well. Hope it won’t sound too similar to any of your other Freemasons tracks you may include. Also, I thought the UK got away from releasing multiple tracks before an album release. What’s wrong with just releasing one single and then an album? Am I just stupid? Check out the video for Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer after the cut.
