Goldfrapp Preps Release of ‘Believer’

Posted by Justin on July 28th, 2010 | No Comments

Goldfrapp – Believer (Davide Rossi Reinterpretation) from Myler Moss on Vimeo.

Above is the Davide Rossi Reinterpretation of Goldfrapp’s third single from the Head First album, Believer. I enjoy the song, but I feel it sounds a little too much in the same vein as Alive and I wish they would have opted for something that had a more unique tone or sound to it that the general public haven’t heard yet. And as I wrote that, I laughed because I think, “Do Goldfrapp get played on the radio anywhere?”

Remixes will be coming soon (and a video too I hope) by Little Cloud, Vince Clarke, Subway and Joris Voorn.

I feel it’s also worth mentioning that Alison recently lost her mother but has truly been a champ and continued to tour despite her loss.

Goldfrapp premiere new video for Alive

Posted by Justin on May 20th, 2010 | 3 Comments

Behold, the spectacle that is the new Goldfrapp video for Alive, the band’s second single from Head First. It’s goth meets the 80s classic movie Perfect featuring Jamie Lee Curtis and honestly…can we all agree that Alison is going to eventually turn into Bonnie Tyler, with evidence in the shape of her recent MasterCard commercial? I loved the shooting of neon light from the fingers, the pentagram and the sparkly vampire disco blood!

Check out our review of the remixes here.

Goldfrapp come Alive with remixes

Posted by Justin on May 12th, 2010 | No Comments

Goldfrapp have wrapped their NYC shoot for the song Alive, their 2nd release from Head First (available on Itunes and Amazon). Today, several remixes were unleashed onto the internet with remixes of Alive by Joakim, Dave Aude, Tensnake and Arno Cost.

Tensnake’s is pretty late 80s/early 90s house on acid whereas Dave Aude is exactly what you’d expect. I love the Joakim vocal remix and the Arno Cost remix is interesting in that it kind of drops out in the 2nd verse to just be drums and a synth behind the vocal track.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Check out the remixes and look for the video soon. You can catch a glimpse of Allison’s outfit from Alive on the Goldfrapp blog.

Goldfrapp Alive remix by Dave Aude

Posted by Justin on May 7th, 2010 | No Comments

Will this be officially released? We have no idea. But it’s a fun track for Friday! Still waiting on the list of remixers and apparently the video has been shot in NYC a few weeks ago. If you don’t read the ‘Frapp blog, I suggest you do so. Catch the acoustic rehearsal of Believer while you are there. And click on the shiny, sparkly Alison on the right hand column!

Fresh Tidbits

Posted by Justin on April 25th, 2010 | 1 Comment

In lieu of trying to make a post for each of these items, here’s a quick rundown of some interesting news:

  • Elle magazine is featuring it’s first “high concept art” cover with Kylie Minogue for June 2010 (read as: “it’s just blurry, and we’re paying for it to be blurry”)
  • Bionic, the much anticipated album from Lady Gaga Christina Aguilera features four songs by Sia, and are described by the singer as the heart of the album. Full tracklisting here, and it appears that Goldfrapp song is appearing. Really? Then you should have released on of those versus this craptastic song. (I mean, I expect this from Dannii…)
  • Speaking of the other pregnant Minogue, according to her Twitter, she’s been recording music but has no record deal. Color me surprised, after this.
  • Amy Winehouse buzz is picking back up saying she is back in the studio with Mark Ronson. I dunno, she feels irrelevant anymore.
  • Tons of songs from Kelis’ upcoming album Fleshtone have been leaked on to the interwebz, the latest being Home
  • Sophie Ellis Bextor describes each track on her upcoming album Straight to The Heart
  • Tracey Thorn unveiled another song from her new album on Stereogum called Why Does the Wind. The album Love and Its Opposite is released on 5/18.
  • Johnny Weir is making music? Oh hell.
  • Pixie Lott reported in on Twitter this week that she was in LA filming a video for the single Turn It Up. Um, I thought you were working on a new album?
  • STFU about a Britney Glee episode already!
  • Janelle Monae unveiled a trailer for her new album The ArchAndroid
  • And a bit of Gaga for you…from MAC Viva Glam.

Goldfrapp Announce Second Single from Head First

Posted by Shan on March 29th, 2010 | 1 Comment

Realizing that Rocket completely tanked Goldfrapp are quickly forging on to their second single Alive. It seems to be a bit more radio friendly than Rocket, so hopefully it will fare better for them and it’s also a fan favorite.

Goldfrapp, Head First

Posted by Justin on March 22nd, 2010 | No Comments

Well, this is the album I think Shan and I have been waiting for with baited breath. Head First is the fifth album from the duo of Will Gregory and Allison Goldfrapp. Upon first listen, it’s clearly yet another unique endeavor by this delightful pair that never ceases to amaze, shock and entertain me and plenty of others. Always ethereal and lyrically as mystifying at times as Tori Amos, Goldfrapp has put down their lutes and acid-tripping acoustic guitars from their last album Seventh Tree and travelled back to the big choruses and hooks of 80′s power pop. Thank goodness.

Justin’s standout track: I Wanna Life

Shan’s standout track: Shiny and Warm
