Just so you know, the Spice Girls musical is officially a go. According to Mel B on the matter:
All five of us are really super excited. We don’t do anything unless all five agree.
Lots of ideas were passed around and then one of the things that stuck was the musical. That night we celebrated the fact that we all had this amazing idea.
The musical is set to be based around the lives of five girls, but not necessarily The Spice Girls. It will be in more to the tune of the recent “Mamma Mia” movie. Set to be produced by the girls’ former manager Simon Fuller and Mamma Mia!’s Judy Craymer. Craymer came on board after Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) approached her twice about the idea.
The musical is expected to hit the London stage within the next three years.
Many fans seem to think that the musical is a bad idea and the “final nail in the coffin” of a career, that quite frankly was over long ago. I’ll reserve my opinions on this until there is more information about the story line. Keep in mind that three years time is more than the Spice Girls were actually together before Geri walked out or that the Girls never actually even finished their last venture, walking out on the last half of their world tour. Let’s hope they repeat neither of these instances.
