Kelis is doing Cherrytree!

Posted by Justin on July 12th, 2010 | No Comments

I cannot wait for this full session to come out, hopefully in great audio quality! I think it would be interesting to do an ‘Unplugged’ version of her album, honestly.

And have you seen her interview on Jools Holland where she sings the Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams? You.must.watch.

Kelis Performs on the Today Show

Posted by Shan on July 6th, 2010 | No Comments

Continuing to hit the promotional trail hard, Kelis stopped by the Today Show this morning to sing her new single Fourth of July (Fireworks). It was a great performance and although she sounds great live, there’s something about the album version that is just more lush and rich that just can’t be captured in a live performance. Regardless she hits the mark. Her album Fleshtone is out as of TODAY in the US! Her promotional stops must be fairing well because at noon today I couldn’t find her album on store shelves. They were sold out!

Video: Benny Benassi feat. Kelis Apl.de.Ap & Jean Baptiste – Spaceship

Posted by Shan on June 30th, 2010 | No Comments

The new video by everyone named above features Kelis as a futuristic stewardess and relies heavily on CGI worlds to power the majority of the video. Kelis pretty much carries this entire song on two simple words, “get high”. As always, Benny delivers on the production with his thumping bass line.

This song is another excellent dance number sung by Kelis and just makes this era of her career even more impressive to me. For anyone who thinks that perhaps nine tracks is a bit too short for her new album Fleshtone I find that this track flushes out the line up to an even ten and fits perfectly.

Want more Kelis? Jump on the spaceship

Check out the behind the scenes clip for the new track Spaceship by Benny Benassi featuring Kelis, Apl.de.ap and Jean Baptiste. The track is awesome and is available on Itunes now. It’s a perfect compliment to Flesh Tone, so tack it on the end for a mixtape.

The ‘Spaceship (Remixes)’ package includes a wide range of remixes from an incredible selection of artists: Fedde le Grand; EDX; Kris Menace; The Toxic Avenger; Datsu; Alex Gaudino & Jason Rooney; Nadastrom and Pance Party. The full video, which from the looks of the clip above is going to be awesome, premieres June 28.

Robyn & Kelis: All Hearts Tour

Posted by Justin on June 18th, 2010 | 2 Comments

Robyn and Kelis had a heart to heart about their upcoming tour together (although less than 10 dates does not a North American tour make in my book).

Check out the divas dishing at Idolator. \Check out the tour dates after the jump…

Rusko Puts the Beats to Kelis

Posted by Shan on June 17th, 2010 | No Comments

But not in the Rihanna/Chris Brown sense. Rusko who is also working with Britney Spears on her next album has put his remix treatment to Kelis’ new single 4th of July. Can you tell that we can’t get enough of this lady?!

I’ve recently fallen in love with just about everything Rusko does and a pairing with Kelis is pure gold. Take a listen here:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Other mixes hitting the interwaves today are the Calvin Harris mix (with a bizarre added male vocal), Fernando Garibay and the “Burns Remix” along with the already leaked Richard X mix as we previously mentioned.

Kelis premieres ’4th of July’ video

Posted by Shan on June 16th, 2010 | No Comments

Here it is! The second video from Kelis’ dance wonder Fleshtone.

The video finds Kelis in a subtle earth, wind, fire scenario which is pretty played out in music videos, Spice Girls Holler comes to mind. Over all though, I enjoy the video. Kelis gets to rock a few of her strange outfits (although not nearly as strange as the ones from Acapella). There are some cringe worthy moments when you can see the budget in this video, but overall it works and the best part comes right near the end when Kelis shoots fireworks out of her hands. I could have used a bit more of that and less raving with a light rope.

Now bring on the remixes! So far all we’ve heard is a pretty decent 80′s tinged one from Richard X.
