Pixie Lott – Gravity Video

Check out the flawless video for Pixie Lott’s fourth single, “Gravity”.

Watch for the brunette scenes, familiar? Nomi Malone from Showgirls anyone? Specifically the leather/biker scene? Someone is either a fan, or completely oblivious to one of the best movies ever made.

I’ve said it before, but the song sounds a lot like Jordan Sparks’ “No Air”, but it is one of the stand outs on the album.

It’s hard for me to commit to learning about every new artist or band that comes out in the UK. Remarkably, the Brits have an ability to churn out new acts and groups at the drop of a dime. For every Girls Aloud, there’s The Saturdays, or Girls Can’t Catch, or Sugababes. For every Leona Lewis, there’s an Alexandra Burke, a Cheryl Cole, etc. They all just spawn off one another, like bacteria in a test tube of pop music. Pixie Lott was no different, another name, another 19-year-old-singer-songwriter-actress-model, who somehow had managed to get into the pop music biz.

First thing is first – the moniker “Pixie” came from her mother because of how small (and cute) she was as a baby. LA Reid heard one of her demos when she was 15, but because of a manager switchup, a bidding war ensued and labels fawned over her to sign with them. She’s currently with Interscope Records in the US and Mercury in the UK. Read further for a robust history.

But as I listened to the music – it became apparent she’s pretty talented and can craft a damn catchy song, even writing a song for the aforementioned Alexandra Burke and Girls Can’t Catch.

Billboard Sounds of 2010

Billboard mag has made a list of ‘artists to watch’ in 2010. I’ve heard of 2. What about you? Thoughts?

Billboard’s picks:

Guess in a year’s time we’ll be able to come back to this and see if they were right or not. I’m placing my money on the BBC’s list, which actually is more of a contest with a proper winner, which means there’s even more riding on the artists (come back tomorrow for that full list!)
