Let me say that I’m a fan of The Bird and the Bee. They are retro, yet not. Not futuristic, but kitsch. It’s actually really hard to pinpoint their style, and that makes me delightful to me. From their numerous EPs and two albums, a eponymous effort and their last album Ray Guns Are Not The Future, Inara George and Greg Kurstin are totally a pair that turn out some great music.
Recently, they decided to do an album of Hall & Oates covers, with one original song thrown in. Chances are you’ve heard Greg Kurstin’s production recently on Lily Allen’s last album and he’s worked with Kylie, Little Boots, Shirley Manson, Britney, Ladyhawke, Sia, Beck, All Saints, Jason Mraz, Darren Hayes – even the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Impressive to say the least.
What the ess is this mess? The Bird and the Bee (Inara George and Greg Kurstin) are releasing an album of Hall & Oates covers. Why? However, The Bird and the Bee have done some awesome covers, so maybe it’ll be good? The album, entitled Guiltless Pleasures Vol. 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates, is out on March 23. Check out the tracklist and one of my favorite covers of theirs after the jump.
